Swim Test for Children

All children under the age of 18 must take a proficiency test to enter the deep water section of the pool. Young swimmers will need to take the test annually.

The deep water section of the Highlands Natural Pool is 6+ feet deep, with no shallow areas. For this reason, only SKILLED SWIMMERS should attempt to take the swim test.

All participants will be asked to complete the following tasks:

1. Swim from the first ladder to the rope (approximately 50 yards).

2. Swim back to second ladder and tread water for 3 minutes.

3. Each swimmer must demonstrate that he or she is proficient at the crawl stroke (freestyle) or the breaststroke.

4. NO doggy paddle, backstroke or swimming underwater is allowed.

To successfully pass, 100% completion of the test is required. Pass/fail will be determined by the lifeguard giving the test.

Swimmers who pass the test will then be entered into our annual test log and issued an ID bracelet allowing them entry into the deep section of the pool. On each subsequent visit to the pool, young swimmers can get a bracelet for the day from the lifeguard staff.

NOTE: If the swimmer tires and grabs the rope or the side of the pool, the test has been failed at that point. Each swimmer can only take the test once per day.
